About Beyond Normal Exposure

Built on the belief that most people are capable of far more than their environment has shown them.

Beyond Normal Exposure is a professional development ecosystem designed to move people from confidence to competence to opportunity — through coaching, learning, community, and intentional exposure to what's possible.

Our mission

To design transformational learning, coaching, and exposure-based experiences that help individuals foster self-leadership, professional clarity, and access to opportunity.

The origin

Why Beyond Normal Exposure exists

BNE was built from a simple but urgent observation: the people with the most potential are often the least exposed to the environments, networks, and experiences that would activate it.

Most professional development is designed for people who already have access to mentors, to capital, to communities that model what success looks like. BNE exists to change that equation.

We don't just deliver programs. We build ecosystems — connected environments where coaching, learning, community, and real-world exposure work together to support people at every stage of their growth.

Because exposure changes everything. And everyone deserves it.

Emanual Murry, M.S.ED

Founder, CEO, & Lead Facilitator

Emanual is the founder of Beyond Normal Exposure (BNE), a Kansas City–based professional development ecosystem dedicated to elevating emerging professionals and the organizations that invest in them. With a background spanning Workforce Development, Learning Experience Design, ICF‑aligned coaching, and ADDIE‑based instructional design, he has spent the past six years crafting experiences that move people from uncertainty to clarity—supporting more than 250 individuals as they launch, grow, and thrive in their careers.

Grounded in the belief that transformation is not a workshop—it’s an environment, Emanual built BNE to be a space where identity, culture, and practical skill‑building intersect. Every program, event, and client partnership reflects that philosophy, creating pathways that empower people to step into their potential with confidence and purpose.

What we believe

Our values aren't decorative

Every program, event, and experience we design is a direct expression of these four convictions. If you see BNE doing something, one of these is the reason.

Holistic Growth

We build ecosystems, not one-off programs. Coaching, learning, community, travel, and careers work together to support the whole person. Not just one dimension of who they are.

Exposure is equity

Access to new environments, industries, and ideas shouldn't be determined by zip code or background. We intentionally design experiences that expand what people see as possible for themselves.

Community Is the Curriculum

The people around you shape what you believe you're capable of. We build spaces of trust, creativity, and cultural affirmation where learning and leadership naturally emerge — not because we force them, but because the environment invites them.

Pathways

Success is not one-size-fits-all. We elevate trades, certifications, and nontraditional career routes alongside traditional education — because the goal is a life that works for you, not a resume that impresses someone else.

Who we serve

BNE is for people who are ready to move.

We work with individuals, organizations, and communities — united by one thing: the belief that where they are right now is not the limit of where they can go.

Young professionals

Building identity, confidence, and career clarity in a world that rarely slows down long enough to help them think.

Organizations and teams

Nonprofits, universities, and youth-serving orgs that want learning environments that actually change behavior.

Community members

People in Kansas City and beyond who are looking for genuine connection — and the relationships that open new doors.B

Things we know to be true

01 Information without environment produces nothing.

You can read every book. Watch every video. Know exactly what you should do. And still not change. The environment — the accountability, the community, the practice — is where transformation actually lives.

-

02 Proximity to possibility is a developmental tool.

When you're around people who are growing, you grow. When you're in environments that expand what you think is normal, your ceiling rises. This is why we invest so heavily in community and intentional exposure.

-

03 Self-confrontation is not self-criticism.

Looking honestly at yourself — at your patterns, assumptions, and habits — doesn't have to be hostile. We teach people to face themselves with compassion, because that's the only kind of confrontation that leads anywhere worth going.

-

04 The community is the most underrated career asset.

85% of jobs are filled through networks. 70% are never publicly posted. The relationship you build at a BNE dinner in April might be the one that changes your trajectory in October
